The rockies played an extra game against the San Diego Padres to get into the playoffs. That Play-in game was considered a regular season game, so both the Rox and Padres have 163 games under their belt this season.

The Rockies and the Padres finished 89-73 for the regular season, tied for the wild card. They had to play a tiebreaker game the day after the season ended. It is considered a regular season game and the stats count for the season.
The Rockies won in the 12th inning when Matt Holiday slid home, missed the plate but was called safe anyway. They definitely deserve the win though. They came from 4th place to 2nd in two weeks and have now won something like 23 of 24, sweeping the Cubs and Diamondbacks. The wait until the ALCS is done may be the worst thing for them.
Tiebreakers happen occasionally. The Angels had one with the Mariners about 10 years ago and the Red Sox and Yankees had a famous one 29 years ago. We Red Sox fans mark the day with fasting and prayer.

The Diamondbacks got 90 wins, the best in the league. The Rockies have 90 wins because they had to play a tie-breaker game against the Padres for the NL wildcard.

extra game vs. the pods for the last playoff spot, and no team is going to stand in the way of the rockies for the WS champs.
