I'm a mostly self-taught artist, and IMHO learning art techniques doesn't necessarily make you a better artist. Rather it makes it easier for you to express your artistic vision in a way that is more accessible to the general public. Practice is what makes one a good artist.

I'm glad you have a passion for drawing, don't let anyone or anything stand between you and your art. Remember, anything can be art. Art is personal first and becomes something you hope to share with others through the way you express it.

Good Luck!

its hard to tell what makes a good artist. you could learn all the techniques and have a vast knowledge of the subject. but its the artists ability to capture emotions and feelings in there work. take davincis "starry night" the painting is so beautiful. the painting makes you feel like there is someone watching over you. if you interpret the painting. then you'll see the true meaning of it.
my art teacher said the artists are more closer to god than people who are not because an artist can pore tray the human soul with something simple as canvas and paint.
in conclusion you can learn all the techniques there is but it dosn't mean your a good artist.

but good news. this stuff can be taught threw experience and lots of time.
art- three letters and endless possibilities .

What makes you a "good artist"
is your natural ability to capture an image or idea with your eye, or your imagination, then to be able to bring that out in a visual or tactile way that others are able to observe and appreciate.

In much the same way a "good musician" does similarly with sound.

Consider the artist Joni Earikson Tada, a parapalegic, who uses a pencil held in her teeth to draw her beautiful nature drawings. Her talent is not confined to the hands, but is something within her that springs out by any means she chooses. That is the essence of a good artist.

I think there is talent that can give people a spark that rises them above others. However without training (formal or otherwise) I doubt it matters how talented you are. There will always be skills that will help you hone your talent into something greater.

I tink if you are willing to learn tecniques to improve then you are a good artist.

Techniques are only one part of painting/drawing . Your ability to get your idea across to others is one of the hallmarks of having skill as an artist . Concentrate on showing us what the piece is about and you will do well.Drawing /painting as much as you can will help you improve the most.Learn about design too.Good luck!

practice practice and more practice. and then more practice after that.

once you can take whats in your mind and put it on a canvas, you will have made it as an artist + often you will suprise yourself at how much better it turns out.
