Only one thing is 100% effective.

A good way to do that is to keep pictures of Janet Reno in your bedrooms.

Hi,
Methods of birth control may be temporary or reversible, or they may be permanent. Some of the reversible methods of contraception are:

Abstinence

Withdrawal

Rhythm method

Condoms

Diaphragms or cervical caps

Intra-uterine devices

Hormonal treatment

Oral contraception

Birth control is a way by which couples can regulate the size of their families. Apart from social advantages, family planning helps to preserve the health of women. Advantages of the various methods of birth control have to be listed according to the method of contraception.

Oral contraception:

Prevents pregnancy

Regulates the menstrual cycle

Decreases premenstrual symptoms

Helps in certain skin conditions like acne.

Condoms:

Help prevent pregnancy and STDs

Are inexpensive and easy to acquire

Do not require a prescription

Are not dependent on any physical condition.

Diaphragms and cervical caps:

Do not interrupt the sex act if inserted well in time

Are usually not felt by either partner during sexual intercourse.

IUDs:

Are effective and long term methods of birth control

Do not usually cause complications since they are inserted by a medical health professional

Do not interrupt regular sexual relations in any way.

The factors to be considered while choosing a contraceptive are

Availability – the contraceptive should be easily available in the locality.

Cost effectiveness – the contraceptive must be cost effective, in that it should provide maximum service at the lowest cost.

Health risk – the methods of birth control must not be harmful for the user.

Effectiveness – the contraceptive must protect against what it is proposed to protect. It must also be chosen according to the urgency with which the results are sought. In case an unwanted pregnancy has potentially devastating results, a more robust method must be chosen.
Partner involvement – both the partners must be willing to embrace the method of birth control chosen.

In responses to Mrs. Whitty26 I think that it is horrible that we don't live in a time where virginity is valued as much as it should be. I am 32 and my husband was my first, I have 2 daughters that I will teach the same values to. Abstinence is the ONLY 100% effective birth control, other than being "fixed" but then you never get to have kids after that.

lol, since everyone keeps saying not having sex, I'll go with another answer. I am on bc called Yasmin. I think it works really well, but not only for what it's supposed to do. It helps with cramping, and bloating, and also your skin. It all depends though. Go to your OBGYN, they will be able to tell you what method is best for you and your body. They will also be able to give you all the pros and cons. There are ton's of different types of bc, not just a pill. So, make sure you have an open mind when doing research and go to your doctor first.

Point and laugh...:)

But seriously, abstinence is the only absolute method of birth control. Every other method, whether it be physical (condom, ...) or pharmaceutical (pills, ...) has the risk of not working.

Depo-Provera is one of the best methods. It is a once every three month injection.

Well the best form of birth control that I like is the pill....it helps keep your periods steady and on schedule while making them lighter and shorter all at the same time... While doing the job....

Ha ha ha abstinence, what a joke! A tribute to our crumbling education system!

Go to an OB-GYN or your primary care doctor and discuss your options. Pills have a decent effectiveness rate, especially when used with condoms, which you should be using anyway.

No one BC is failproof. Pulling out is no bc at all.

Use two or even three methods each time for better protection. For example, use pills or diaphragm, PLUS the condom.

Hope this helps!
