Because they don't realize it will cost them 10 points. To quote from YA!'s own blog, "As any Bart Simpson fan can tell you, “a burp is not an answer.” Neither is IDK. If your only response to someone’s plea for help is “I don’t know” (and with an abbreviation no less), then please refrain from chiming in. It’s not only annoying to other people, it could be considered point-gaming, which is in violation of the Community Guidelines. A popular variation of IDK occurs when the responder has nothing to contribute and just expresses the wish to know the answer as well. Still useless and still a violation."
So be careful with those IDK's, I like hearing from all of you.

And yet, all of these people repeat the same exact answer as those above them, for the sole purpose of getting those 2 points.

Laziness, also maybe they truly don't know the answer. The way I see it, they can get five times the points for making a good answer, so why waste their own time and get a two pointer? Basically, don't say IDK. lol but i like some of the answers to your question! :)

IDK. It means I Don't Know. Just kidding the real reason is that they want an easy two points. They give absolutely no thought before answering something they aren't sure about. To an asker, that is a complete waste of time.

More than some people do it and it is a violation of the Yahoo! Answers guidelines.
It is thoughtless, lazy and a waste of everyone's time.
