some are born because they know what they are and who they want to be from a very young age, which maybe the cause of genetics...otehrs are made from influence...trust me, I've been through it...

There is a lot of politics in this question.
The view being pushed at the moment is that being gay or lesbian is not a choice, but a biological state.
The evidence is that it is genetic and passed on through the woman's genes. There are some specific differences in the brain between gays and straights.
However, there is a lot of evidence that for some people it is about choice or upbringing.
For this reason bisexuals sometimes are discriminated against in the gay community.
Gay and lesbian are different. It would appear being lesbian is more about choice than being gay. Sometimes lesbians become lesbians through psychological or sexual trauma.
In summary, it would appear people are gay and lesbian for a variety of reasons. "cures" may appear to work, but it is possible to have a family and children, but still essentially be gay.
Personally I think the world is big enough to tolerate all types no matter their reason or origin.

I think they are made and I'll tell you why. Everyone has it in them to become something greater than what they are. I think it has a lot to do with your upbringing as well as taking responsibility for your actions as an adult. We all have potential in us, but not everyone realizes their full potential due to past problems, abuse, circumstances that we don't want to or just cannot let go of. We all have the power to change ourselves for the better, but it's up to us to make that decision. No one else can do it for us. If every adult would ask themselves, "where do I want to be in 5 years, what do I want to accomplish?" then maybe they would realize that our present circumstances are a result of our past actions/behaviors/ideas. Leaders see who they can become and the impact they can make on society and look toward that future. I don't believe they are just born. Whatever circumstances they have faced have MADE them stronger. It's not always easy (never is) but they forgo temporary discomfort because they know what lies ahead and that keeps them going.

Are people born Left-handed, or do they choose to be Left-handed?
Obviously they are born left-handed, even if we don't know what "handed" they are until they start to draw, color and write. So when it becomes relevant, the child realizes which "handedness" they are. If a child is forced to use only their right hand, do they become Right-handed? No, they are still lefties who can pass for a "Straight Right-hander"
It's the same with Sexual Orientation. One is born already gay, straight or bisexual, but it isn't relevant until they reach puberty, or a little later, and then they realize they either are attracted to the opposite sex, the same sex, or both (bisexuality correlates to ambidexterousness).

I think it's a damaged chromosome,
because I cannot believe that someone
would choose a path that would cause
themselves so much pain and anguish.
And afraid to tell anyone about their problem.
I have several friends who came out and
their family and friends were horrified.
They thought it was contagious.
I think this is no worse than when
a child is born with a hole in their heart.
Some things can be fixed, some can't.
There is "NOTHING" you can say or do
to make me see this differently.

Seriously think about it. If homosexuality was a choice, why would anyone actually CHOOSE to be hated, denied basic human dignity, harassed, fired from jobs, denied housing, beaten and even MURDERED for who they love?
Also, if homosexuals are "made" through sexual molestation or similar, how come not ALL victims of such turn out to be gay?
No, it's something much deeper, more innate that determines our sexuality.
I also don't believe it can be changed, one way or the other.
Only an individuals' personal understanding of their own sexuality can be expounded upon and broadened...but never changed.

Scientific researchers who specialize in human sexuality have shown that homosexuality is linked to biology and genetics.
An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists at the University of Padua have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation.
A study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 examined X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay. Researchers found extreme differences between women who had gay sons and women who did not.
Another scientific study said that researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers, but the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families. The older-brother effect was constant regardless of whether the men were raised with natural, adopted or stepbrothers. It also didn't matter if they weren't raised with their biological mothers.

Gay activists regularly claim that they were "born that way" and thus cannot change their desires or stop their activities.
That sexual desire and behavior are flexible was demonstrated by the Kinsey Institute in 1970. It reported that 81% of 684 gays and 93% of 293 lesbians had changed or shifted either their sexual feelings or behaviors after age 12.58% of the gays and 77% of the lesbians reported a second shift in sexual orientation; 31% of the gays and 49% of the lesbians reported a third shift; and 13% of the gays and 30% of the lesbians reported even a fourth shift in sexual orientation before "settling" into adult homosexuality.

I think most of us have some innate homosexual tendencies. Just looking at nature, you will find homosexual behavior in cats, dogs, horses, cows, etc. Nothing made them that way, they just are. I think humans are probably the same. Even if they aren't, I don't really care.

I think both, some can have a situation that has made them that way or atleast interested in that lifestyle others can just feel like they were born in the wrong body.
