have a 1977 gremlin x. it will crank, and idle just fine. it only has a problem when it has a load ont he engine. (going up hill, or fast acceleration) it will even idle uphill, so i know it's not that. what's wrong with it? i recently replaced the fuel filter, i rebuilt the carb, i put in a new fuel pump, i replaced most of the fuel lines, i checked the timing, and the plugs are maybe 12 miles old.

Does it stall out or just not have the power to go up the hill or accelerate fast? I would be suspicious of the timing, fuel mixture and or the carburator.

When is the last time it has had a good tune-up: New fuel filter,
new air filter,
carb. cleaned and adjusted.
timing set,
new plugs if it has them new points.,
New distrubator cap and rotor,
new plug wires.?

Sounds like it needs a good major tune up.

I'm with dukester, I would say check your timing & your carb mix, you can find a carb kit at your local parts store (if you think you could handle it) and give your carb a quick overhall. timing wouldn't be too hard to adjust.
Good luck.
