Can you solve this?
Three men rent a hotel room. Each pays $10 for a total of $30 spent on the room. The next day the hotel owner tells the three men that they over paid for the room as it only costs $25. The three men tell the owner to give them each a dollar back and he can keep two dollars.

If you do the math, each man paid $9 a piece for the room for a total of $27. The owner kept $2 which brings the total to $29.

The question is where did the other dollar go?

Sorry, I should have included this drawing with the post!

I hope this makes more since. I know that 3 + 2 = 5! :)

30 - 5 = 25

Hehe. Anyways, I hope this helps!

You SUBTRACT the $2 from the $27, not add. That gives you $25, which is the adjusted price of the room.

The men had to split the last dollar, or they gave it to the owner. Or they paid $25 and each took a dollar back 25+3=28=2=30.

There is NO DOLLAR MISSING. They paid 27--9 each for the room which INCLUDES the owner's extra 2. MISDIRECTION puzzle, and if you THINK IT THROUGH LOGICALLY, it adds up. Or take it from the other side--they paid 30, got 5 back, now they paid 25, and of the five back each took one and gave the owner 2, so again 27 is what they paid.

if the owner gave back 3 dollars, he only has 27 dollars remaining. the cost of the hotel actually was 25. the difference of 2 dollars which the men told the owner to keep.

The $2 the owner kept was the difference between $27 and $25, so it is accounted for.

There is no missing dollar, add the numbers together and you can easily find the answer.

30-25 for the room and -5 for the money the owner gave back. done

Reverse and start at the other end. The dollar didn't go anywhere. It is a mathmatical illusion. When you change certain numbers and add different ways, things can seem to not add up. do it backwards and see what you notice.

what's not logical is the addition $2 to $27..! you should've subtracted it to make $25..! the amount they paid the hotel..! =]
