I took my daughter to this place that said they had casting directors from hanna montana and suite life of zach and cody.
When we got there they put us in a room and she talked to the guy that said he was the vice president and he talked to her and told her she was beautiful and she had all these great qualities.
But now they say she has to take these classes that are going to be so much a month.
I dont want to break her heart but I think it is a scam.
The name of the company was John Robert Powers and Assoc.. Does anyone have any info on this?
If so is there any place that she could try out for movies that is free?

Don't just get your daughter away from this outfit, but get her the HELL away from it. Casting directors from those shows do not do business in this way, and if they do, it's through the big agencies in L.A. If they're casting for extras, they go through an extras casting service such as Central Casting.

If this joker wants to charge you for classes, don't believe a word he says. He'll tell you they might get your daughter into Hanna Montana or something after she completes the classes, and then when the classes are completed, they'll tell her the show no longer needs people.

EDIT: Rory's answer above sounds like it makes some sense, but the unfortunate thing is, many of these little agencies that charge for acting classes are offering substandard classes that will have no bearing on whether the students are going to know anything more upon completion than they did going in, and no bearing on whether or not they will be more employable when they emerge.

You have to understand that they lied when they implied that the casting directors from Hannah Montana and Suite Life of Zach and Cody were there (those casting directors have NOTHING to do with John Robert Powers). They do that to hook you in. To get your daughter's hopes up and heart set.

This is a scam. Her heart is going to be broken anyway, because John Robert Powers will not get her into the movies. They can't. They aren't even agents.

So it's better that her heart be broken with you still financially solvent.

If you want her to have acting classes, you can find them for a whole lot less than John Robert Powers charges. Try contacting local drama clubs or community theatre groups for names.

If people make you pay up front then it is usually a scam.
They usually just throw you in and make you look over paper work.
But then again if you told them that she has no acting experiece then it would make sense that she would have to take acting classes.
But either way you have to have some experience to go down that path, so why dont you let her take the acting classes because it will help her down the road whether she recieves the part or not?

John Robert Powers is a HUGE scam! Make sure you never go back, and you might even want to block their number.

AlsoJohn Robert Powers isnt even a real agency they sell you (badly taugh) classes and (cheap) photographs.

Powers is a SCAM

There is no place she can audition for any speaking roles without an agent.

If she is truely talented, pehaps an agent would see her. Write to me at the aol address in my profile and I will tell you how to try to get her represented. Include the city you live in.

I'm guessing it's a scam.
I'd have to send you to
exploretalent.com
it has a free trial for a month and you get auditons. they call you and it's like an online agency. it's not a scam and you pay maybe 10$ a month and you can have any audition you think you're suitable for. you should check it out.

Unless you pay serious money to an agency, you won't find high-paying film jobs. Sometimes studios do open casting, but it's highly unlikely.

Any place that claims to be free and charges for classes is a scam, sorry to say.
