If you stand under an umbrella in a rainstorm, where the drops fall vertically, you remain relatively dry. But, if you start running the rain begins to hit your legs even if they remain under the umbrella, why?

It's because you are running into the drops that just missed the umbrella. They continue to fall and your moving legs basically intercept the drops before they reach the ground.

Depending on the size of the umbrella, it can't protect you very well, if the rain is falling at a angle, say 45 degrees. The umbrella can cover you only so much.
