Yes--there was one called 'News & Events' on AOL that got so vitriolic that one woman threatened to kill two other chat room members. This was one of those rooms where the same group of regulars showed up every night at the same time. It was fun for about six months, but then this one lady got REALLY weird.
She'd gotten the address of two or three people in the group, and got mad at one of them. (Fortunately, she didn't have mine.) She threatened to go to the lady's house and tell her husband that she was cheating on him! It was so wacky, that we were all being extremely careful not to 'set her off' so that she wouldn't do something crazy.
Then, she got so upset that she drove all the way down the East Coast and went to the lady's house to kill her. The woman actually had to call the cops and get a restraining order against this nutcase!
I was put off chat rooms for good after witnessing that experience.
