It's easier to fail by not doing something, than to try and fail on effort.

Because they have freedom to choose not to do their work now. They get wrapped up in the social scene. Of course by the time their grades come out it will be a different story. And I am sure if mommy and daddy are paying for their education that will be a slap in the face to them.

When I was in college my priority was my job and paying my bills. Unfortunately, studying came last.

On the other hand, I think too many college kids have it easy with their parents paying the bills, so they don't worry about studying.

In the end only 50% will graduate. Very sad.

Your question is a poor blanket statement that demeans the majority of college students who work hard, are motovated and complete their assignments properly.

Because of lack interest in studying, they feel that it is possible to survive in this world without a college diploma. Mostly those people with parents that can provide them with almost everything.

they feel constrained to come up with correct opinions, artificial ideas redeemable for artificial rewards.

they are studying topics of little personal interest or application, through cumbersome inefficient methods, during the waning prime of their youth, yet they do not understand this because no one will tell them until after the fact, and then only implicitly.

for those that are truly lazy, it's because for the first time in their lives, they and only they, are responsible for their work and the profs are not obligated to babysit them.

they want to have fun.
