Heading to Sydney next week, what should I pack, where are the best places to shop and eat?

Sydney at this time of the year is warm during the day but cool at night. Pack a jacket or a sweater. When you get to Sydney, go into the nearest big newsagent or bookshop and get the Good Food Guide, published each year by the Sydney Morning Herald. It lists dozensof good restaurants in all suburbs and awards chef's hats to the best with the top being three hats. You will find some wonderful places to eat there.
