This is not a statement of fact. My wife was never asked for show money when she went abroad for the first time. Nor were my sisters. Even my female staff are not asked.

The Immigration people are skilled at spotting "tourists" who are not really going out as tourists. Thus, the ones who don't look like legitimate tourists are asked, increasing the probability among a certain sector - - the "posturing as tourists"sector.

Leo d Grump, not that Bopol's sisters are "no touch". I myself has been asked several questions in Immigration but as what most have answered, I was NEVER asked for show money by the Philippine Immigration.

Maybe she will be asked how she is financing her vacation. Whether you liked it or not, some of our kababayans travel for "holiday vacation" kuno and end up staying in their host country with the intent of finding employment. Or worse, TNT na lang. It's just a way of cross-checking the traveller's capacity to finance the travel and any related unforeseen events.

As for the changing regulations, you can say that every Immigration officer can ask any you any question for the purpose of verifying your reasons for travel. Questions can vary from officer to officer. If they ask for money, as in money, you can always report them. Know that they are not supposed to collect any fees other than the standard travel tax.

I was never asked for money when I traveled out of the country, and I was traveling alone for the first time - with a new passport (old one expired... that had some stamps on it.). This is the first time I've heard about someone being asked to "show money" at immigration. I've heard about people being asked to show proof of income when applying for visas (like at the US Embassy), but never at the airport.

Those illegal Filipinos overseas posted as tourist so they can leave the country but they never had the intention to go back. They wanted to escape the poverty in the Philippines so they try to go abroad the quickest way they think they can. Instead of applying for overseas employment agencies. To make sure that they are really leaving as tourist and will go backa fter the holiday, hence the show money.

These are not "stupid rules and regulations" as you call them. They are designed to protect against human trafficking and illegal immigration. Don't blame the rules, blame those who violate the law. Immigration officers are trained to spot fake "tourists" ie those who pretend to be tourists but actually have the intention of working and staying illegally in a foreign conutry. Or worse, recruited with fake jobs only to end up as prostitutes. A "tourist" to Honk Kong for example with only $50 travel money is mjost likely a fake.

Bopols sisters must be in the 'cannot touch' class.

Everyone I that I knew were asked too many questions before leaving the Phils, letters of invitation, visas, etc etc and one immigration officer was actually chiding my stepdaughter about studiying overseas.

Some of the 'non-tourists' looklikes actually got off loaded from their flight,

that show money aren't supposed to be asked by Phillipine Imigration. It's only asked when you reach your destination Country For instance you're travelling to Singapore'or Australia,The Imigration there would ask you for the show money,as they wanna know wether you are really capable of traveling and staying to their Country.U are always required to provide that show money. They wanna see that u really are going there for a holiday and not going there to work later,as lots of People doing that....they're scared that we will Invade them....

if its for a vacation or tourist visa then they need to show that they have money cause it tells them that they are not planning on staying in the US, that they are planning on going back home and make their livelihood here in the US. if u cant show that you have enuff ties in the Philippines, they won't let you go.

I don't understand why Phil. immigration would be asking that at all. This is normally asked by Immigration when you arrive at your destination not when your leaving.
