for me it was safer to play outside for children. I remember being out in our neighborhood until 10:00 or 11;00 pm playing and always felt safe. now I am afraid to let my grandchildren outside by themselves period. damn pedophiles, kidnappers, violence etc this world seems so unsafe anymore

i remember being able to play outside and not having to worry about things like we do now. riding our bikes in the streets in front of our house and being able to go to the store with a quarter and buying 2 16oz pepsi's and 2 bags of frito's corn chips and 5 used comic books for it. school was out for longer in the summer and did not start back until after labor day. i remember the local dairy had a store that you could go to and buy chocolate milk or ice cream real cheap. the local bakery had a store at the bakery that you could go and buy all their products cheaper than at the stores. i remember my grandmas biscuits. i miss getting 7 ups and a pack of peanuts and putting the peanuts into the 7 up and drinking and eating the peanuts together. i also remember not having to lock the doors at night as well. there is more too numerous to list.

Instead of sitting in front of a TV or on a playstation, we went outside and played and got lots of excercise. I miss the safety of being able to walk any where without fear of being kidnapped or raped, etc. I remember we didn't even have to lock the doors, because if a stranger came around, everyone in the neighborhood was watching them to see what they were up to. I knew most everyone in my hometown, because it was such a small town (about 2,500 people). We didn't need expensive toys to entertain us, we could invent our own toys, if need be. Either we were at the neighbors, or they came to our house and we played Red Rover or jump rope, and other games.
My Dad's homemade rootbeer, pancakes and baking powder biscuits. Mom's homemade bread, cookies and cinnamon rolls. Grandma Wright's homemade chicken pot pie and lemon pie. Grandpa Wright's Mulligan stew. Going out to the campgrounds with all of my family, including uncles, aunts, cousins, Mom and Dad, and my brothers and sisters.

I could go on and on.

Riding in the back of papa's truck -with the tail gate down, swinging my feet off - touching the dirt-running around the yard at night looking for lightening bugs- omgosh- just realized how much I miss- But miss going to grannies house for Sunday dinner after church- and missing her and papa.

Everything.Cartoons,movies,societies,politics,guns,cars.Back when you if your kid gave ya any lip you could beat him a few times without getting thrown in jail.Back when there was no such thing as political correctness and everyone said what they felt.Back when children's cartoons had slapstick comedy and innuendo in them.Back when if some drunk guy started causing trouble, the sheriff came and shot him.And back when kids weren't so friggin stupid.pretty much the only thing thats gotten better is medicine and technology, which are blessings and curses.

I remember knowing everyone the neighborhood because it was safe to walk down the street. I also remember walking to school 2 blocks away and other mothers standing in their yard to make sure everyone got to school safe.

When I was growing up in the 60s and the 70s, the only things we were afraid of were Russia and cancer. Life is much more complicated, stressful and anxiety ridden today.

I agree with you. I used to visit neighbors and be gone all day and my parents never worried. I road my horse to an old woman's house who was lonly and liked company; another neighbor let me swim in their pool; all the neighbors bought my girl scout cookies and seeds when I sold them.
