The dimino theory had strong support in the 1950's. Be specific and explain what the future of Asia after a communist takeover of vietnam must have seemed like then. What did history prove?

History proved the "Domino Theory was wrong" just as the Communist hysteria of the 1950s was unfounded. The thinking then was that communism was a spreading plague and like a wildfire had to be stopped in it's tracks by making a firebreak. Korea and Vietnam were U.S. firebreaks. It was feared that other countries would fall to communism in sequence one after the other in Southeast Asia. That theory didn't fit Korea well since the next place was Japan where communism was unlikely to succeed. After Vietnam fell in 1975, Thailand did not follow. A strong deterrent force at home would have served the U.S. better than two costly distant wars. Communism withered on its own vine and died by natural causes in the end. Of course the statesmen of the 1950s did not know this at the time.

The United States lost the armed conflict in the domino theory. It wasn't a declared war. However, our tactics once losing the armed conflict were still to stop the domino theory from happening so instead of armed conflict we went directly into diplomatic conflict. Sneakily President Nixon opened up China to at least consider a viable trade deal with the United States. Notice Vietnam still technically communist while celebrating thirty years of winning the conflict marched down with Pepsi, an American product. The domino theory happened just opposite of what we feared. We adapted and fought the war where we could win it after being unable to militarily. China is now so inundated in American capitalism its actually better that they are communist, because now we can if we are as clever as we once were use it to our advantage and continue the economic power of the dollar and consequently our interests against the new and more powerful threat even than communism the capitalist Euro. It is not easily identified as an enemy because it is so close to us, and virtually untouchable militarily because of invested interests. Pump the dollar into China and Asia and we can usurp the power of the Euro. In Asia is the American hope put. The communist takeover of Vietnam was mute, plan B was already in the works by Nixon and was proving useful at the time of the actual acknowledged takeover, albeit non-important, to American capitalism, takeover of southern Vietnam.
