This just makes me see red! In Nevada a guy was gonna be put to death by lethal injection tonight! This angel' s crime? Beat a elderly woman to death! There was more then enough evidence to prove he did it. But a group of LIBERAL protesters got together went down there and started whinnying about the death penalty being to cruel. Found a LIBERAL judge and got a stay . Now it starts all over going to a grand Jury deciding it the death pen. is to cruel! Did I mention this little bastard beat a elderly women to death? DO YOU SEE WHAT"S WRONG WITH THIS??? If that was my mother he killed I can guarantee he wouldn't think lethal injection is to cruel . He would be begging for it . Now you tell me why this pease of Sh*t should not be put to death!!!! You pretend it was your mother!

Tom ! He admitted giult ! If you can't answer then don't. It has nothing to do with Republicans! It has nothing to do with me! And I don't see where I asked for any Liberal spin

Them : A good idea but even better let the Family given the choice on how he should be punished. Again if it was my Mom that was the victim I wouldn't have a problem with seeing the fear in his eyes loo ken up the barrel of my 45

First Lady : 2 big problems with your answer #1 You could care less about the elderly woman who is the real victim? Shes dead so she doesn't count? And let's not forget Life in prison He breaks out (or is paroled by a Liberal) comes to your town and doe's this to your mother! Point being Liberals need to start caring for the Victims . They sure care for the Criminals! ACLU (liberals) pay for defense of child molesters so they can get back on the streets and do it to another child . How proud you must be being a liberal supporting this . It's truly sickening

The death penalty is a deterrent! It guarantees that low life will never do this to anyone else. And it's the best punishment for child molesters

If you make this about liberals or conservatives, you won't be able to make much sense out of this.

You don't have to condone brutal crimes or want the criminals who commit them to avoid a harsh punishment to ask whether the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime and whether it risks killing innocent people. Conservatives and liberals alike have been asking these questions.

Is putting that guy to death gonna bring back the woman? All the death penalty is is a form of revenge not punishment. I don't agree with the death penalty. It is not evenly applied which makes it unfair. I can't comment on this case because I don't know anything about it, but I know of cases where the accused has been put to death when there was evidence that he was innocent and all they had to do was test a gun, but they didn't want to do that. They put him to death anyway. The problem I have with the death penalty is that it's a human system which means it's imperfect. All DA's want is convictions and Defense atty's want is to get people off. No one really cares about the guilt or innocence of a person. All they're interested in is getting the win because that's their career and ego. No one wants to lose a case and I think truth gets lost. Also, I don't think that it's the government's job to kill people. That's God's job and I don't understand how "conservatives" who are so pro life and Christians can agree with the death penalty.

The death penalty is always a hot topic, one solution I always thought of though is that if a jury finds in favor of the death penalty in a case, let the family of the victim have final say over whether they want the death penalty or life without parole.

Now,
If the accused was you and you didn't commit the crime would you feel the same way?

There are lots of conservatives that are opposed to the death penalty, BTW. Bill O'Reilly being one of them.

Thinking (I must respond to you):
My point is that life isn't as cut and dry as the hard core partisans like yourself would like to make us believe. I consider myself to be a centrist, and I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats in elections. So, I wouldn't consider this to be 'liberal' spin as you put it.
Your question was asking why do death penalty opponents believe as they do. I am merely giving you an answer, you may not like it because it is nuanced (note: I am not trashing you in my response to you) and thoughtful.
My support or opposition for an issue can't be based on a single extreme case. You have to look a borderline situation when making a judgment, because it has real consequences. Innocent people *have* been executed. You may accept the killing of innocents as acceptable collateral damage, but I don't.

Now, I don't advocate for them being released or rehabiliated. You are locked up until you are dead. Period.

There's not a lot of difference between your point of view and mine, only that my view ensures that those wrongly convicted aren't killed.

Frankly, I wasn't expecting you to 'get it' because maybe you haven't seen enough BS from both sides to be cynical about government, yet.

This would make me smile....if the judge let that guy out on bail and he turn around and kill some of those Liberal protesters. May be that will change their mind about the death penalty.

Lethal injection is too quick and easy for this kind of slime.
