I, like millions of his fans have a lot of respect for him.

In my eyes his right up there @ the number 1 spot & i have a lot of statistical data to prove that.

You jst look at his stats & he beats all of his opponents in the key departments. His has performed in all countries,on all types of pitches & against all great batsmen of his time.

I know M.Marshall,Fred Trueman & Joel Garner had a slightly better average but then again they all stopped at 250-300+ wickets while 'Mr.Pigeon' - Glenn McGrath went on to take '563' wickets leaving these 3 far behind.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In ODI's also he has the better average among the top 10 wicket takers.
Bottomline - If you very carefully examine the bowling stats of top 20 bowlers ever in both test cricket & odi cricket , you will conclude that this guy 'Glennn McGrath' beats others in most of the categories.
I give fast bowlers some extra credit because they have to put in a hell lot of efforts to be successful
I fully agree with you. Though there had been great and better fast bowlers in the past, their carreer did not last as long as G..D. Mc Grath
He is a fantastic bowler but if you are going on speed only i dont think he would even be in the top ten, hes just not that fast. But with the amount of games he has played and all the wickets he has taken put together to make a fabulous average that any cricketer would be jealous of i wouldplace him as number one :)
He is not my #1 favourite bowler. I lpreffered watching Lillee, Ambrose, Marshall, Garner, and Akram but the fact remains McGrath was a smart bowler who could take wickets on any surface. He did over a fair length of time which just shows his class. He might not have been as exciting as some of the 'raw' quicks but he was the best.
actually, imran khan, waqar were very good.
wasim akram was super super but the only edge mcgrath had over wasim and waqar were that he bowled more near to the stumps and let the batsman make the mistake.
mcgrath was more cunning than akram but i like akram the best.
mcgrath was actually a sissy who took few risks.
he kept bowling in the same spot continuously and the batsman would get frustrated after not making runs.
then he would play a silly shot and get caught behind in the slips or wicketkeeper or the batsman would bring the ball onto the stumps.
in terms of talent, wasim and waqar were far, far superior with their inswingers and outswingers. but they did not play a botring game and gave the batsman an easy yorker or some space to play a risky shot.
i really don't like mcgrath for his attitude. his talent was also average. he was just cunning and knew how to frustrate the batsman. so boring to watch. imran,wasim,waqar were helluva better.
statistics don't say everything. would u say ganguly was better than zulu warrio aka lance klusener though ganguly has more records and runs?
don't forget the marvellous aussie fielding that gave mcgrath his numbers.
I think the last one should be that if the forth coming player is unable to reach the pitch is situated time then the player is declared to be out.
