2(x^2+4x+3)=2(x+3)(x+1)
so what you would do is take out the highest number and then factor.
example above

2x^2 + 8x + 6
= 2(x^2 + 4x + 3)
= 2(x + 3)(x + 1)

3x^2 - 12x + 9
= 3(x^2 - 4x + 3)
= 3(x - 3)(x - 1)

4x^2 - x - 14
= (4x + 7)(x - 2)

a) (2x + 2) (x +3) = 0 ; x = -1 ; x = -3

b) (3x - 3) (x - 3) = 0 ; x = 1 ; x = 3

c) (4x + 7) (x - 2) = 0 ; x = -7/4 ; x = 2
