Are you allowed to listen to music at your desk?
I have a half cubicle and I find when I need to get my work done but the people around me are being too noisy - I play some music, nothing way too loud or annoying - like some 50's and 60's rock - everyone usually loves that stuff - its enough to drown them out and believe it or not, it does make your day go by faster - I hear a song and I think to myself..."oh, I know that one" or "oh, I remember that one" - and I sing along (in my head of course and sometime out loud, but not very much) - no I'm not crazy, it really does work, try it.
Also, it helps when you have something to look forward to in the evening away from home, a movie you want to rent or watch, calling someone, someone coming over, etc.
As far as the ac blowing on your neck - can you move the vent around to adjust which way the air comes out?

Find an ingenious way to irritate a coworker, such as humming "the song that never ends" all day long, talking incessantly about how the Martians are coming to take us all away and we must prepare ourselves, etc. Eat something that gives you horrible gas and visit the people you don't like in the office. Put a tent over your cubicle? Get a new chair? I think you should try to find some way of getting a laugh out of it, at least some of the time. Prank call your co-workers. And watch Office Space.

Start some form of training in another area you would enjoy. Think of the things you like doing and would consider as a job. Most Tafe colleges are very flexible and can be worked in with your current situation, you might be able to do a few hours per week at night, some Tafes offer online subjects. This would be a good idea as you still have an income while your planning on your new direction, I know lots of people who have successfully done this. Good luck!

An inexpensive way to improve your environment might be to get some awesome posters and put them up. Like Hawaiian scenes, or hot cars in the sunset, the ocean... that kind of thing. Better than staring at a blank wall.

Go to school to be a Paramedic like me. I travel around all day in an ambulance and I LOVE IT. alternating boredom with periods of sheer terror! I could not have it any better. I would DIE if I had to be stuck in an office!

If you are not prohibited to use transitor radio with fine and soft music, then you can do it. Or tell your boss he might give you another separate job from the rest where you can enjoy music or hear some current news. Try.

try looking for another job that you will like better while keeping this job. In the mean time, wear a sweater and head phones.
