Does anyone know a proper way to catch a mantis shrimp, or how fast they can be? I think I have this pest in my saltwater tank, eating my crabs and snails at night.

Very carefully.

Peetee has the best idea of using a trap, but you can make one yourself with things you probably have on hand.

Here is an idea of how to make one yourself:

You can also just use a jar, bottle, kritter keeper, or anything you have on hand laid on its side with bait in it and a string that allows you to pull it upright and out of the water (you don't want to put your hands in a tank with an upset mantis!). You should remember that these have the ability to break glass, so use something made of plastic.

I once had a Mantis shrimp in my tank, I found the easiest way to get it out was to find the rock it was hiding in and just lift it out. Had to move a few rocks and then replace them but found it quicker and easier than setting traps.

For just a little money you can purchase a trap, made expressly for removing this sort of nocturnal raider. Most of the suppliers of Saltwater paraphernalia sell one,and the instructions will suggest the right sort of baits. If you first attempt doesn't produce results, try a different bait. Eventually you'll get the little bugger.

Just use a net..... and if that does not works drain out all the water. I am sure your mantis shrimp will go no where...
