Not very often. Horrible things happened to people that the government targeted. But there was law and order. People could safely go to work, etc. The same sort of thing took place in Yugoslavia. When big Mother Russia ruled there with an iron fist, there was terrific oppression but there was also law and order until the oppression was removed. Freedom is very loved by Americans but not every culture will tolerate it.

Iraq had a reasonably safe environment under Saddam. He held terrorism at bay because he was a terrorist himself and didn't want any competition.
When he went all that stability went with him. Now they have dozens of bombings every day which is why they still come out an cheer when a US soldier is killed. I'm not saying it's right and I'm not saying Sadam didn't oppress and kill dissidents but on a much smaller scale than the anarchy now unleashed. This is why the whole world views the US invasion of Iraq as one big fat colossal blunder.
Thank God that a few countries like France, Russia, Germany and Canada saw through the WMD lie, anticipated the results and stayed out of the "coalition". They can't sell french fries in Congress but they maintained their dignity and international respect.

Saddam Hussein ran a very tight ship.
No one would have ever tried doing the things that they are currently doing during his reign.
Also Al Quaeda would have been destroyed if they tried to enter the country, while he was President of Iraq.

No much worse things happened. People were killed after being drug away from thier family in the middle of the night.
Lets see the football team was tourtured after losing a match and some of them died from the tourture. Mass graves were common. You dont need a car bomb when you can gas a whole villiage do you?
Nice try at making the US look like the bad guy and saddam like a saint, but what he did was the bad.
I was in Iraq serving in the Marine Corps and cant count the amount of times I was thanked for being there. I know that will go against your agenda and you will dismiss it becuase you didnt hear about that on communist controled network, but it is true.

Iraq did not exactly have a free press under Saddam so I don't think such stories filled the AP wire. Regardless, Saddam would wipe out entire neighborhoods in retaliation for any such attack.

Car bombs are relatively new in Iraq and the Middle East, although they were used long ago by the IRA, and previous to that by the Mafia. But you have to remember that the Muslim world is quite far behind technologically. Saddam actually preferred firing squads and torture. or poison gas for really big operations.

he had a great way of stopping resistance to his leadership. if he found out who it was , he killed there family and Friends and anyone Else in the village just to make the statement , " don't mess with Saddam or his reign of terror"
Geoff C: i agree, i was in the army there, and i was thanked by many Iraqi's about stopping Saddam because him and his sons would take wife's from the Iraqi citizens rape them as a statement to the village and then send them back and in some cases marry them against the will of the lady
but after we got Saddam we should of turned it over to the UN

No they didn't. Of course Saddam kept the people that might do such things in prisons or in mass graves.
