i just bought a compaq desktop yesterday and was wondering if it should come with a windows vista cd or recovery disc of some sort cos all i got were 2 dvd rewritables
also, is it ok to create more volumes on the disk while it is updating or should i do that before or after?

You drive is already partitioned off with recovery software on that. making you own set of disks is a good idea though. No PC comes with a set of pre made disks anymore.

For some reason, new computers are not being shipped with the recovery disks -- not sure why this is....

the reason why they dont ship recovery disks otherwise known as oem disks is because of piracy thats what i heard.

These days you buy it preinstalled and run a back-up program to create your back-up DVDs. Do so as soon as possible.
