Set the value of CD as x.

Since BC=2CD, BC=2x.

Since AB=3BC and BC=2x, AB=3(2x)=6x.

BD=BC+CD=2x+x=3x.

AD=AB+BC+CD=6x+2x+x=9x

BD as a fraction of AD means BD/AD

So you get 3x/9x

Cancel out the x's and simplify the fraction to get 1/3.
