Taro came from South China. The Chinese may be the main consumers of this crop. The Polynesians also came from South China. They carried the taro with them when they migrated away from China. They make poi out of taro. Today taro is still grown on Oahu Island. The Chinese steamed the small ones and eat them with a oil and soy sauce dip. They also cut the taro and cook it like sweet potato.
