Knowing the conseqeunces would be

Alienating a U.S. ally
Cutting off 95% of the supply route of up-armored humvees
Cutting off 30% of the fuel supply to U.S. forces in Iraq
Cutting off 70% of general supplies to Iraq
-as stated by Defense Secretary Robert Gates

Are these things worth an academic historical debate in Congress?

Absolutey in favor.

The fact that so many Turks identify with a genocidal dictatorship shows precisely why this bill is a good idea. These folks need to have the fact that others oppose this abominable crime shoved in their faces. Especially considering their current actions against the Kurds.

And if the Turks do in fact enact the measures that you mention, hampering the War on Iraqis, so much the better.

I am for it. Imagine that many members of your family were killed in a genocide (the first of the 20th century) and that one of the biggest most powerful countries in the world denies it (denying it for a ME ally). Don't you think that the survivors deserve that respect and to not be called liars. People don't deny the holocaust, so why should the Armenian Genocide be any different. Also, Turkey is still a huge violator of human rights, it would be like supporting the regime in Burma... maybe it would bring back the troops, killing two birds with one stone.

Frankly the only group of people worthy of being victims of a genocide are such empty headed politicians.

They are concerned with party only. However they are forgetting that in the American Democratic Party, America comes first and they will not exist if America ceases to exist. It seems they are hell bent on destroying this nation, thus to destroy them selves. They are either blind to this concept or perhaps they do not care.

If they were truly vote pandering, they would figure out how to get the war won in a quick order. This would steal the thunder from Bush's camp and place it in theirs.
However such common sense is sorely lacking in goverment these days.

This bill of theirs is nothing but idiocy fueled by power lust and greed and a unwillingness to actually solve any real problems.

The nitwit that decided we should supply our troops thru Turkey should be fired....... any idiot looking at a map can see other avenues of supply...... Saudi Arabia.... Kuwait ( they owe us big time) but the easy way would be simply off load supply ships at Basra,,, I think the Genocide Bill is stupid but I also think relying on Turkey so much for supplies is also stupid

Why aren't the Democrats addressing Genocide in Africa now, why make a fuss about something that happened over 70 years ago? What next are they going to condemn Germany for the slaughter of 6 million Jews? (They most likely would not want to offend the President of Iran with that.)Its a political move, and they know it. Then they will come out with that lie about supporting our troops.

This is no historical debate...it's a backstabbing , underhanded, anti US debacle that the Democraps have tried to kill off co operation from an ally.

If you libs on YA want to prove you support the troops, call Nancy Pelosi and scream "Troop killer" at her !

I'm disgusted at this new low.

It is not a matter of principles, as some Liberals would state. It is an issue of timing and political maneuvering. The Democrats are not even attempting to cover their transparent contempt for Bush's diplomatic relations, no matter what it ends up costing the US.

1-The events of history can't be changed, only the way we look at it
2-if 95% of humvees came from Turkey we were over-dependant on them to begin with
3-Iraq is full of oil, just needs to be processed.
4-same as number 2

and finally i think the only way to prevent genocide is to understand the process that leads up to genocide...IE Hitler's Enabling act....and whatever has been going on in Sudan for the last 4 years...still very little info...to think we've seen the last of crimes against humanity is naive...and since you can't bring dead people back to life...the next best thing would be to acknowledge a genocide took place and analyze the hell out of it so you can PREVENT it in the future! yes i'm for it if congress honestly thinks those events meet the definition of genocide yes! anyone can debate the definition of genocide and that's fine but anyone who says, no we should ignore it to help the war effort is doomed to repeat history.
