I working on a paper for my english course, and its based on the theme of betrayal within Chinua Achebe's "Out of Africa"... I'd like to know of other books that have betrayal in them (and are of literary merit... sorry no super modern books!) Please explain the impact that the betrayal had on others in the book...

In The Count of Monte Cristo, the protagonist is betrayed and falsely imprisoned, then returns to seek revenge on those responsible.

I agree with the first post (Caitlin). "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas is one of the most legendary stories about betrayal.

And the Bible has many famous stories of betrayal (Judas). Even if you don't believe it, they're still stories.
