They are both connections, that will let you type, on the other computer. Not just looking at a web page or typing into a window. You are typing commands on their machine.

You can open an ssh or a telnet connection to the other computer, but for it to let you in it will have to be running ssh or telnet as a service. Its basically the same program but its running all the time and listening for people who want to connect. So its being a "server". You might need to already have an account on the server for it to let you in but not always.

If the other machine is running something special for you to connect to, such as a MUD game, then it is hosting that. Which means you will be the "client" and it will be the "host".

You might also need to know port. Think of it as the "door" assigned to the service. Usually the front door (default port) is fine but sometimes they like to set a different one. Such as
telnet play.sdmud.org 7777
is a telnet connection, to the play.sdmud.org server, and the MUD game which is running on port 7777

A host is anything that can accept a connection: a computer, a server, a switch, a router, a firewall, etc. A server is a device that's intended to accept many multiple simultaneous connections. A computer can typically only accept about 10 simultaneous connections. A web server can accept 1000s of simultaneous connections from various people across the web.

Telent is a plain text communications program. if someone intercepts your communications they can just read what you're typing. SSH is telnet with encryption. If someone intercepts your communications they can't read it because it encrypted.

the fee of sound is approx 700mph - the fee of sunshine is plenty swifter (easy takes approx 8 minutes to get from the sunlight to take heed to and thats thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of equivalent miles - you ought to get your calculator out and paintings out how long sound might take yet of path, sound does not commute in area because of the vacuum). My expertise of the concept of relativity (and it could't be fullyyt precise) is that for a physique to realize the fee of sunshine (or "infinite" velocity) you may require "infinite" means (i.e. all of the means in the universe) and as a result might require infinite mass (i.e. all of the mass or count in the universe). As you are able to think of, for a layman which contain myself, subsequently this is hassle-free to trust Einstein, that velocity of sunshine commute isn't obtainable. of path, noone informed additionally those easy photons that flow around! the concept additionally is going on approximately: what in case you have been on a custom on the returned of the carriage, traveling on the fee of sunshine and then moved to the front, you may in fact be traveling at swifter than easy speeds (which Mr E reported is impossible). finally, Mr E bangs on approximately in case you have been on the practice doing the fee of sunshine (S.O.L.) your concept may well be distinctive to somebody status by using the area of the "practice song" - think of you're gazing a tree; what you're certainly seeing is the easy (that took 8 minutes to reach from the sunlight) bounce of the tree on your eyes, which sends the electrical powered sign on your ideas which tells you you're seeing a tree. word that occasion to the bystander gazing the S.O.L. practice - what are you able to verify whilst the practice is shifting on the same velocity because of the fact the easy that needs to bounce off the practice to realize your eyes? i think of it quite is why Mr E reported because it the concept of relativity because of this bearing in ideas of the relative perceptions of the practice passenger and the song bystander. As I stated, this is my expertise and that i need to be way incorrect - i might advise you study "a quick history of Time" by using Stephen Hawkings, in spite of the undeniable fact that i've got study it thrice (final time grow to be approximately 5 years in the past) and that i nonetheless sense like a caveman grappling with a Nintendo DS! solid luck on your journey in the direction of enlightenment - could the rigidity be with you!
