Yes, reptiles are definitely capable of remembering things, aside from being in the wild they can learn to associate a person or item with something else (such as feeding). I used to be a reptile keeper and whenever I went in to clean the alligator pond they left me alone... However, whenever I entered with a bucket, they knew it was feeding time and it would immediately trigger their feeding response. No buckets of food in the wild, so that is something they learned and remembered. Also, the aldabra tortoises looooved to have their necks rubbed, so whenever any of the regular keepers came near them, they would stand tall and stretch out their necks. Again, something that doesn't happen in the wild, was learned and remembered.

Reptiles are capable of learning - maybe not terribly complex things, but learning nonetheless. Without memory, there would be no learning. So, yes, their nervous systems are capable of memory functions. But whether they could remember a specific person or not is another issue. However since they have well developed chemical senses, it wouldn't surprise me that they could associate the particular chemical signature of their handler with food, in fact, I would sort of expect it.

i own many reptiles and yes, a reptile is capable of recognizing its handler so long as you handle your snake often.but if your thinking of how a dog remembers who feeds it then no a snake is not capable of this. reptiles have three distinct feelings pleasure anger and fear anything that has to do with those emotions, is what they remember, hope i was help to you =)

Absolutely. I have a snake that I've raised since a worm. I learned not to just throw my hand into her tank and try and pick her up. (She'll bite) Instead, I poke her...watch her put her head out and flick the air with her tongue and let her smell me. Once she does she recognizes my scent and there's no worries of bites.
