A 1950 Ford Business Coupe.

My first drive in it was out to the truck shop of the dairy where I worked in high school.

We pulled the engine (239 cid flathead V8) and transmission (three spd manual) and did a complete rebuild on both then rebuilt the rest of the drive train. After that a little body work, paint and a conversion to dual exhaust (an absolute necessity if you were going to be at all cool) and it was ready for the street.

Four months later I removed the transmission and rebuilt it for the first of twenty times (I had a real problem remembering to lift my foot from the throttle when I depressed the clutch to shift from first to second gear [What ME race... Oh no, not me])

Twenty transmissions, three drive shafts, and more universal joints than I can remember, five fuel pumps and two carburetors (each rebuilt at least twice). I learned and honed my skills as a mechanic on a fleet of 144 milk trucks and one 1950 Ford.

Had a lot of fun in the 200 thousand miles that car lasted.

When I was 16 my first car was a three year old Buick. Then the first week I was a freshman in college a tree fell on it and I got a '57 black VW bug with cherry red leather interior. It could go 82 mph if there wasn't any wind.

In 1961 I got a 1955 Buick Super. It had one burned valve and a fender with primer. I loved that car!

Mine was a 50 Chevy convertible. I paid $27.50 for it in 1957. Bought it at a police auction. Spent about $25.00 on it and drove it about 2 years.

A Mercury Comet.

I loved that car so much that when it was finally ready to give up the ghost, I had the engine redone and used it until 1981 when I got a new Capri.
