Ah, I can help you with this. What I'm gathering is that you are asking how to put a header in your paper, and that you want the page number to show up when you print your paper, am I right? If so, the steps below will help you with that. If not just email me if you'd like. I'll tell you how to do this, I'll try to take you step-by-step. If your still having trouble, feel free to email me.
1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Click View(its between edit & insert)
3. Click on Header and Footer
4. Then the Header and Footer dialog box will appear. Click on the symbol that looks like a small paper with a # sign inside it. That is the button that will show what page number you are on. After clicking on the "Insert Page Number" button, in the header box type "of" after the page number, then click the button next to the "Insert Page Number", this button will be a small paper with plus signs on it. In the dotted line box under Header, it should say 1 of 1. The numbers will go up as you add more pages.
5. When it prints, it will print on the left side, if you want it to be centered or printed on the right side of the page, you have to click "Align Right"
6. After having your page numbers listed, and setting your alignment, all you have to do is click "Close" on the "Header and Footer" Dialog Box.

I hope that helps you. If you have any questions or need help then just email me at ashton_snow@yahoo.com if you'd like.

Well, I'm not sure what version you are using but I think ti should still be fairly the same.

Along the top is a list of menu items. Choose "View". Then choose, "Header and Footer". Depending on what you have and haven't used, you may only see a few menu items. If "Header and Footer" isn't among what you see, click on the the double-down arrow at the bottom of the list. This will allow you to see all of the menu items in the "View" menu.

After selecting, "Header and Footer", a dashed box will open at the top of your document page and your cursor will be positioned inside the header (or maybe footer if you are at the bottom of your page when you did this). A floating "Header and Footer" toolbar should also appear.

If you need to switch between header and footer, you can either press one of the buttons on the toolbar or scroll top the top/bottom of the page (the dashed box will remain visible) and click your mouse inside one of those dashed boxes to move the cursor there.

OK, so let's say you've gotten your cursor into one of the header boxes. Now you need to insert a page number. If you notice, by default, when you click insider a header/footer box, the cursor is aligned to the left side. Just like normal text, you can modify this. Use the standard paragraph format buttons to set it centered, justified, or aligned right if you wish. Typically, when a page number is in a header, it is set flush right. When you select these buttons, you'll see the cursor move appropriately.

Next, insert the page number. To do so, look at the floating "header and Footer" toolbar. On the left side you should see a large pound sign button '#', a double-plus button, and a small pound sign with a hand over it. If you just mouse over, it will tell you what each button means. Select the large pound sign and it will insert the page number into your document header and will automatically modify it for every page.

Note that this will start with page 1 and number every page including the first. If you need more specific formatting such as starting with a lowercase roman numeral, numbers on every page BUT the first page, starting with a different number, etc., this is easily doable but will take a while to explain each in text. So, rather than waste time, if you need more than this basic formatting, I'd ask that you please e-mail me at dynamic_eigenvalue@yahoo.com with the specific of your formatting needs and I'll tell you how to do it.

Open Word with a new document
Under the Format menu select Header/Footer
It will bring up a box that will allow you to insert a Page Number into the header of your paper.
You only have to insert it once on the first page. It will automatically appear on all pages after that.

It depends on what version of Word you are using... 2003, 2007 etc. It is in one of the menus... View --> Headers and footers. then it shows you the header (you can toggle to the footer). There is an option for page numbers.

Got to view: header and footer and then you can type in whatevear you want. and then for numbers go to insert: page numbers and it will ask you where you want them and such and press okay.
