Hi,
I keep having to set up a static ip address to get some programs to connect to the internet properly. I know it is probably considered a simple task to many, but I keep having to do it and sometimes it just doesn't work for some reason. So is there a program out there that changes your configurations in order to set up a static ip address for you- for vista?
Thanks

oh and I am on a wireless adapter. I have the information already- the ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, and dsn server. But when I enter the info into the Network properties, the internet just stops working. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Any program that would set up an static IP would have the same steps as doing it in Windows itself. You would have to open a window and type in the address. Can't see any way that they could make the process any simpler.

Do you connect directly to a cable/dsl modem, or to a router? Some routers allow for DHCP (dynamic) addressing and static addressing at the same time via MAC filters. If you absolutely need a static address, i would suggest purchasing one of those. The DLink DI-524 is one that I know has this capability.
If you want your WAN IP to be static, then you would need to pay your ISP for static addressing.

your Internet provider should be able set up a static ip address for you with no problem. they generally do this for business customers. there is also a way to do it by way of cmd prompt on your computer. not exactly sure how it works though.
