Which came first, atari or intellivision?

Atari. I'm actually old enough to remember when it came out. And the Atari was released in the US in Oct. 1977, not 1976 as stated above. I was sure of this, so I even checked on wikipedia:

Atari came out October, 1976
Intellivision was released in 1979

but I liked Intellivision's games and controls much better.....
