Adam Oats or Stevie Y would be my guess. Hull and Oats made a pretty awesome combo for quite a while. Ronnie Franchise lacked the killer scorer in Hull's category to get a fair comparison.

Out of the two, Ron Francis. He's second on the all-time assists list. I think Sakic, Messier, Coffey and GIlmour should also recive consideration. But of course, no one comes near Gretzky. He's got more points than any one has points. And to all those who said Lemieux, I think Mario was more of a goal scorer than playmaker.

How about Adam Oates. He set up Brett Hull and later Joe Juneau for some big numbers. Says in Wiki (if you trust it) that Oates was second to Gretz for assists in the 90s.

Izayah.you keep showing your stupidity through your questions. Francis hit the 90 assist plateau ONCE! He only had more than 70 twice!

I saw this question on the front page with all the other questions and read the first part. The first name that came to mind was Mario Lemieux before i even saw anyone elses answers.
I opened the question and was shocked to see that he was not one of your choices. I thought at first i was the only one who thought this, but as i read the answers i found that i was with the majority of the people, soo i stick to it.. Mario Lemieux .

Oates might have been the best pure playmaker as a bunch. He wasn't in the others' class when it comes to scoring goals, but the man sure could set up his linemates.
