Oh don't remind me. I've got carpal tunnel and I've got to use all my strength to get 5 pumpkins carved, so we can light them and have the house look cute. Then I have to think about the food and activity for the Halloween party we always have for the kids.
(I usually do takeout pizza and salad... beer and wine for the adults that want to hang around...)
Then I have to plan activities at school (read more pumpkin carving). Then I have to tell some of the parents to let their children dress up and participate in the activities that day because Halloween is not the Devil's Birthday and that it is a holiday at least 2,500 years old - the origin being scaring away evil spirits and the beginning of the winter for the Celts.
The Japanese observe a similar holiday at the end of their winter called "Setsubun."
Then I've got to think about a fun costume.
All in all, Halloween is a good holiday because unlike Thanksgiving and Christmas, I am not obligated to spend the whole vacation with the in-laws...
