my little sister's b-day party is this weekend even though her birthday isn't until the 24, and i got invited to go out of town this weekend, so what should i do?! stay for the birthday party or go out of town?! i'm having a really hard time figuring out what to do!

This actually depend on the AGE of your little sister...
If she is 5 or less, then it wouldn't make much of a difference to her in case u never showed up; provided u tell her of your plans...
Now,,,if she is old enough to comprehend the meaning & reasoning behind what she is told; i.e., being 7 or more than that of an age, then it would simply take u to have a short & meaningfull talk with which u simply EXPLAIN TO HER HOW U WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT TRIP OUT OF TOWN...etc.
On the other hand, should there be others of her age around her during her happy hours of celebration, then it would help & assist a great deal....
In all cases, all u need to do is to have a friendly & close talk with her, and "let her get the feeling" that she is ACTUALLY letting u go with her own BLESSINGS & PERMISSION.
I know how important Birthdays are, but u would always ensure to attend other occasions for her birthdays yet to come, but UR PLANNED VISIT OUT OF TOWN WILL NOT ALWAYS COME AGAIN.
Take care.

How old is your sister? What will you be going out of town for?
If your sister's birthday is important to you then you should stay.

Stay with your sister. One day when the two of you are old and grey you'll regret not doing so. Trips come and go..your sister is forever.

Maybe talk to your sister and ask if you can celebrate her b-day early or later than usual, she should understand and support you.

How much would it upset your sister if you weren't there?
Can you re-schedule the trip?
