I will still buy Mattell toys and other toys made in China. This is mainly due to the fact that 85% of the worlds toys are manufactured in China. The average toy there is made for as little as 80cents each and retail for an average of $49.99 this is because average Joe Chinaman works for as little as 12cents an hour. Can you see average Joe American working for that kind of pay! Imagine the average retail price of toys then, it would increase so greatly that the average consumer would not be able to afford them.

I read a follow up in some newspaper to all this that says if you were planning on boycotting Chinese made toys, you would rule out over 90% of all toys - the US made ones tend to be in the wooden or plush handmade category. If your child wants anything with plastics or electronics, it's probably going to be from China. I would just stay alert and immediately return any recalled products for money back or exchange.

The toys will be better inspected now after all the recalls. I would prefer to find toys that are made in the USA but the only way the companies can keep the cost down is to get them made by cheap labor overseas.

yeah, probably ... everything is made in china nowdays, like it or not .. so how is buying a toy made in china for the fisher price brand (or any other brand) is going to be any different??? it is true that the company selling this stuff should be responsible at least for quality control of foreign manufactured items ... but the bottom line is the only reason they shipped production overseas in the first place ... and they care about nothing other than the bottom line.

just for the record, I genuinely wish I could (I actually make an attempt to do this) buy more U.S. made stuff even if I had to pay more for it ... with the one notable exception of cars.
