External hard drive is extra storage plugged into a usb port. The extra mb/day could be coming from internet cache/cookies. My advice is get a newer computer, or an external hard drive, which are pretty cheap, and easy to use

Try cleaning your Hard Disk with an Anti Virus. It may have a virus that is filling up your space. Try backing up your PC and Re-format your Drive. If you are asking about EXternal drives, They are handy and you can always buy an external Drive on any Computer Store.

Do a search on the word "temp" and delete everything in any temp directory. Nobody actually has a totally clean computer with not one thing they don't need or want. Deleting cookies and temp files help but also find any files named ".Bak" or "read me" if you have read them.
