Um, yeah, make a Palestinian state. I can't believe people forget this war over Jerusalem started thousands of years ago, and people like Nancy Pelosi, Rice and Clinton are going to make some solemn speaches, shake hands, and come up with a "real" solution. It's not that simple!! They don't understand what it's all about.

Obviously, this is spiritual in nature...it's not going to get solved with UN-approved conferences!

You are exactly right most politicians don't have a clue about the complexities of the Israel and Palestinian claim to that land and most most probably wont ever get it.I believe that the land was given to the Jewish people by the God of Abraham and woe to those that try to take it away.

I think that Dr. Rice has hit upon the only workable solution. I challenge you to read Dr. Rice's biography and become familiar with her policies. She is by no means unfamiliar with the challenges to be faced when dealing with Middle Eastern diplomacy. She has no illusions about the complexities involved when dealing with the people, the land, and the religions. The situation is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA to all you senior diplomats out there).

We must draw a line between what is said publicly as a policy to assist in the diplomatic effort, and what is done behind closed doors to facilitate the process. It's called strategic communications. Much of what is done in back rooms cannot be discussed openly out of respect for the cultural nuances, and the importance of presenting a balanced policy that would be suitable for all involved.

Due to the complexities of the situation, power and land-sharing is not a viable option. Segregation is a must because of the irreconcilable differences between the warring factions. How the would take place is a complex issue because Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all have stakes in Jerusalem.

Understand that Dr. Rice is a mediator in this case, not an arbitrator, something that the media seems to have forgotten as they spin this way out of control. It is neither her intent nor her purpose, to talk them into dividing the state; she is facilitating conversation between two countries that cannot talk to each other. Ultimately the policy belongs to them, not the United States. She will attempt to help broker a deal that is most favorable to the National Security Strategy of the United States, but she is not a decision-maker in this case, and we must remember this when criticizing her efforts. Understand that a division is what is in the best interests of the United States based on the National Security Strategy. Such a deal would bring Palestinians under the control of their own land and elected officials with the assistance of USAID and other agencies worldwide. This would allow them to plug into a global economic system that would force them to abandon terror or face economic ruin.

She is bringing the full force of the DIME to bear on this situation. The "DIME" is the Diplomatic, Informational, Military and Economic instruments of national power. Her diplomacy and shuttling back and forth between the leaders builds confidence the U.S. is serious about the creation of a Palestinian state. She ensures that her trips are publicized as part of a strategic information campaign to align with both parties without prejudice. They are aware that we support Israel militarily, and she is brokering deals with the Palestinians and providing funds from USAID to rebuild infrastructure and to create the conditions for economic success.

Fret not. We do not have idiots running amok...well at least Dr. Rice is no idiot, and she has a deeper understanding of "what it's all about" than most, which is why she was selected to become the National Security Advisor and the Secretary of State. Recall that Madeline Albright sought her expertise when she served as the Secretary of State, but Dr. Rice turned her down due to her political affiliation.

The Palestinian State is in jeopardy, and Pelosit, Rice and Rodham-Clinton are not decision makers. Don't get your hopes up with people that want the invasive Israel to have its way.

Israel to return the lands to the Palestinians for which they are entitled is the only solution to the chaos in the Middle East.

What IS the solution? They're trying. We've tried for decades. Short of annihilating a culture that thrives on teaching their children hatred, what is the solution?
