First, he was a hero. His dedication saved untold numbers of animals and helped institute programs to rescue and rehabilitate injured animals, and to help restore endangered species.
Second, there's something few people know about his shows. NONE of those animals were actually *discovered* or disturbed in the wild. They were either from his zoo, or they were carefully collected prior to the filming, and staged in a comfortable, protected area for him to 'discover' on the camera. Nobody was ever in any danger, and the animals were not being shocked or upset in any way. It was a well controlled situation at all times, and he was an expert handler of all manner of wildlife. And his value as an educator is completely irreplaceable.

Steve Irwin was a self proclaimed wildlife warrior.
I do not agree that he scared animals or "messed" with them.
He put great emphasis on not disturbing the environment or the animals to do his research and nature shows. And both him and his wife Terri were actively involved in the preservation of endangered species.
Have you been to Australia Zoo? There are many many different types of animals that people would normally not get to see and they are all treated with the utmost respect and care.

Steve was an incredible person and a fantastic educator & conservationist. Just think about the number of people that gained an interest in wildlife and conservation that may not have if it weren't for the croc hunter coming into their homes through the tele. What a loss. Steve, you are dearly missed.

Steve Irwin, what a larakin he was. He tried to teach us all the importance of conservation. His love of our worlds' wildlife was so obvious, and was real alright, no worries there, his legacy will live on through his daughter Bindi and son Bob. Thanks Steve, you made a difference.

Hero! He has taught us many things! Even his death has taught that sting rays are deadly, and, not to get too close to them! And, he has helped many crocodiles! Honestly, I say that he is a hero! Thanks for the great question! Thanks,

The general opinion of Steve Irwin is that he was an animal rights activist. I strongly disagree. He molested and harassed animals in their environments and on dozens of occasions, he provoked animals to attack--in self defense. Animals do NOT need to defend themselves from true animal rights activists.
There can be no doubt that he did many fine works and has benefitted many animals in many ways; but the ends did not justify the means. He might well have done the same good without harassing and molesting wildlife. Let's not forget, his sad death occured while swimming with stingrays--in a way that the ray found "threatening" enough to attack to defend itself.
