Thanks but I wasn't asking for opinions about working vs. not working, I have to work so daycare or home care is my best option.

My daughter's day care center charges $225 a week. She is eight months old. If you don't go a full week, it is $50.00. We are in the suburban metro Detroit area in Michigan

There's no simple answer to this question. It depends on a number of variables, including:
-Where you live
-What type of childcare you choose
-Your child's age
-How many hours a week your child spends in childcare
Where you live is what really determines the bottom line. Nanny care costs significantly less in, say, St. Louis than in San Francisco simply because the cost of living is lower there and so are wages. And daycare — whether in a center or in someone's home — could cost hundreds more per month in a relatively expensive city than in a cheaper area. Your best bet is to check with friends and caregivers near you to determine the going rate for the type of childcare you prefer.
While your child is in the baby and toddler stages, you'll pay more. That's because kids this age need more hands-on care and so the center must hire more caregivers. With an average of $8,150 per year ($679 a month), daycare costs for babies and toddlers in the United States range from $4,388 to $14,647 a year ($366 to $1,221 monthly), according to data from the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA).
Topping the charts with costs over $11,000 a year ($917 a month) for baby and toddler daycare are the following states, beginning with the most expensive: Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., Minnesota, New York, Wisconsin, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
And at the bottom of the charts, here are the states with daycare costs below $6,000 a year ($500 a month) for baby and toddler daycare, beginning with the least expensive: Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Texas, Idaho, North Dakota, South Carolina, Kansas, and Alabama.

hi there. You should definitely check into a local babysitting service. I know a lot of housewives that run home day care centers and are SOOO much cheaper than regualr day cares. My mom works at a day care center as an infant "teacher" and they charge 200 a week for an infant there. its crazy(the teachers only make 8 an hour so i dont know where all that money is going lol) You should check into that, I know its a little scary at first but im sure they have references. good luck dear.

It really all depends on your area, I live in north east Missouri and when my kids where in daycare they charged me 125 weekly for my son (who was just a little baby). I would suggest just calling some local daycare in your area and ask what they charge.

I live in the Nashville area and there is one place that charges $150 per week.....It's a nice facility like a Kinder Care type place. Then a brand new facility...Summit Academy charges $195 per week. I also know of a private day care person....she charges $100 per week.

Isn't it ironic that you spend your workweek educating children, only to come up short when it comes to your childcare? I swear our system... I know it's kinda cliche, but have you thought about selling avon or marykay? Those fellow teachers have to read SOMETHING on their breaks. :) Maybe if you downsized vehicles...if you don't already have one, get a used sedan that's cheap on insurance and gas. If all else fails, maybe you should consider moving closer to family? I know it's not the best option, but something to keep in mind if all else fails. Good luck!

My daughter charges $200/wk. Call a few of the local day care centers. They will give you a quote but it usually cheaper(and better for a baby) to use a home day care.
