I personally have always been scared to get a flu shot because my mother and father both got very sick after getting one. Maybe they didn't get the actual flu, but they sure did get really bad flu symptoms. Now that I have a baby of my own I'm having the same dilemma. I'm 99% sure that I will get a flu shot for my daughter, though. I'd rather have her get a little sick from the shot than die from the flu itself.

In your case, I think that your baby and both of your inlaws should get the shots (since they are elderly)...all three of them are at high risk of getting the flu and getting very ill.

By the way, I love how people refer to vaccines that use "dead" viruses. Viruses aren't really dead or alive. I'll have to explain that one to you someday.

Oh...and tell your husband to Yack Off!

It's recommended that all children, over the age of 6 months, get this shot. The flu is deadly to young children and elderly people, and the shot protects them from that by injecting a very small amount of a dead flu virus, which gives the body antibodies to it. It doesn't cause the child to get sick, that's a myth. I have always had my daughter get it, and recommend to all the parents I work with that they get it for their children too. The effects are the same as with the rest of the vaccines.

You should do it to protect your inlaws and your baby. Two children in our area died of the flu. And you can NOT get the flu from the flu shot.
