I have 4- and yes, you will leak.
You will want to get nursing bras without the underwire- they can cause clogged ducts.
I didn't like the sports bras on the market because they made me look like I had a uniboob. Likewise, for me, I like the unlatch and latch- easier in public to nurse.
I bought mine from Wal-mart and JC Penney's. Good deals and comfy- for a bra that is. Motherhood is also great for this, but I am not good with ordering online.
If you are pregnant now, get yourself fitted for a bra- and my person told me to add an extra cup size. I thought that would be too big- but I did need it! They also have extenders in the back which help to get you fitted nicely.
Good luck- and happy nursing!

It really depends on what size you take in the first place. Someone in my size (40F) is going to pay $40-$50 for a supportive nursing bra. Pretty much that limits one to only 2 bras unless you have a really good income! Women in more normal sizes and cup sizes can get as many as they normally wear now (at least 3-4). Underwires have been found to be a problem for a lot of women, but not all women. I would start with just one bra and see how you like the fit.

I would suggest 4 or 5. and with no underwire.During the first few weeks you are going to leak alot, and may need to change your bra a lot. Just make sure to keep your nipples dry, I got a bad case of thrush from wearing nursing pads that did not pull the mousiture away from my skin. Underwire can poke you, and can cuase cloged milk ducts.

I only have 2 nursing bras, and they are wireless and only to sleep in. Other than that I just wear my normal bras and just push the cup under my breast when it's time to nurse. I am large chested, and none of the nursing bras felt supportive enough for me, so I gave up on them. LOL

The answer depends largely on how easy it is for you to do laundry. You'll leak on them; you'll get spit-up on them.
But, mostly, don't listen to the advice about buying them in advance. I fled to a mall with a five-day-old; the ones I'd bought at the end of the pregnancy were risibly small once my milk really came in. I am a _bit_ smaller-sized now, with a two-month old, but the ones I bought before I gave birth are collecting dust. If you get any, make them the stretchy cotton kind, not anything too fitted. Warner's makes a good, easy-to-unhook one.
You might want one underwire for going out in a fitted top; the 'stretchy cotton kind' are also often the, er, unflattering profile kind.
'Lansinoh' makes the best nursing pads, I've found.

You will need about 4. But I agree with the posts not to buy them in advance - you will be a very different size when you are nursing. If you are larger, like I am, check with different sites such as www.everythingmom.com to get the good ones. I used the sports style ones without underwire in the beginning, but when you are established the underwire may be ok - with me it is the only thing that was comfortable.

oh i agree that you will need a few....cuz you will leak on them
and depending on your breast size is the quality and support you will need......if you are very large breasted usually the lactation consultants also run a store in the hospital that sells very nice unusual sizes bras
but if you are of average to small breasted Wal-Mart sells nursing bras for fairly inexpensive....i just bought a new one there....it's pink and costs less than $7
so check out Wal-Mart/Target/ Motherhood for good deals

I bought one before I had my daughter, but only used it once. It was much easier for me to just lift my shirt and bra up. I'd buy one, and not anymore than that until the baby comes and you see if you like them. My best friend also didn't use them, she bought 3 and wish she hadn't.

I bought 2 to start out with, one for sleeping and one for during the day. I, however, did not produce any milk. I worked with a lactation consultant for the first 2 weeks, and nothing. So, I was glad that I didn't get more (you can't always take them back). Just something to think about! Best of luck!

Several, because you will probably leak onto them and they will need washed frequently, I'd say 4 at the min. and without underwire is usually more supportive.....
