There's a line in a song from the musical "Oklahoma" that says
"I don't think that I am better than anybody else,
But I'll be danged if I ain't just as good."
That's the way it is for me, and I am very happy with my ancestry.

Yes, I am proud, even if it's nothing I had control over. I am a direct descendant of two original Mayflower passengers and also a direct descendant of the English painter Thomas Gainsborough through my father's family. I don't think it's any better than anyone else's, but it makes me more aware of who I am and the struggles that my family went through to get here to the U.S. and live in a new, untamed land because their beliefs were not acceptable to the Crown in England at that time. It also makes me feel connected to them, though I will never have the opportunity to talk to them.
When I did my genealogy and learned all of this, the struggles of the colonists became more real to me. We always learned these things in school, but it never touched me in any way until I realized that I descended from those brave and strong people who shaped this country and never looked back once they got here. It doesn't make my ancestry any better than any one else's; it just makes it "mine." And for that, I am proud. We can all be proud of the people who "made" us.

My family is mixed, and our heritage comes from some of what I consider to be some of the most fascinating people on earth: the ancient Ghanaians and Ethiopians, Phoenicians, Vikings & Celts. So, I think that my ancestry makes me unique, but not necessarily better than anyone elses.

i have ancestory from all over this world, I don't know them so I can't say that i'm proud of them, but I would not want to be any other color than what I am now. I would not want to be anywhere else than I am now. I am proud of what I have done with what they have left me.

Yes, and no. I'm proud of my heritage but that doesn't imply that it's better or worse than anyone else's.
