Arnold Schwarzenegger won as governor because the Californians wanted a Predator to run after the drug dealers and a Terminator to end the activities of scalawags.

The democratic governor was very unpopular and refused to step down. If he had, the Lieutenant Governor would've run against Schwarzenegger and may have won.

Because the governor before him was bad, that people recalled him. Arnold seem like the best choice at the time.

It was a fluke, no one (not even the candidates who were in the real election prior to the recall) believed the recall would garner enough votes to take out Davis, and enough showed up to vote to take out Davis. (even though it was a circus election)

Probably because he was a celebrity more then anything. I know that my teacher who once lived in California vote for him. For some unknown reasons.
