i note how the gay community bashes the Christian countries that shelter gays so that they feel safe enough to bash Christians.

Since gay people are murdered in some middle eastern countries, they may not have parades but they make themselves visible in other areas such as the Iranian Queer Organization, despite the penalty for being suspected as gay being death by hanging.

The gay community does not bash Christians, people who are gay speak up for themselves when told that they are an abomination because of Biblical words written thousands of years ago.

On the other hand, some examples of people being bashed and murdered in the past 10 years because they were not heterosexual include Matthew Shepard, Barry Winchell, Gary Matson, Winfield Mowder, Steen Fenrich, Arthur Warren, Fannyann Eddy, Jeff Whittington, Danny Overstreet, Nizah Morris, Bertrand Delanoë, Gwen Araujo, Paul Broussard, Charlie Howard, Aaron Webster, Richie Phillips, Nireah Johnson, Brandie Coleman, Glenn Kopitske, Ronnie Paris, Jason Gage, Jody Dobrowski, Michael Sandy, & Roberto Duncanson.

Gay people do not bash Christians, and it is a pity that the reverse isn't true as well.

Nope, in San Francisco, Amsterdam, Sweden, etc. Places that have a very low rate of religious belief.

If you want to hand out credit for toleration of homosexuality, you need to look back to the Enlightnment. It sure hasn't been the orthodox Christian community.

I am not gay or bisexual or transgendered, but if I were I would certainly see no need to be patriotic. Hell, it would be better for me in that case to leave the country and go to a more tolerant nation, like Canada or Sweden.

You attitude seems to be that since the US does not legally allow violent acts towards homosexuals, homosexuals need to be in awe at how tolerant the US is. If the most you can say for American tolerance is that we are better than India, China, or the Middle East in regards to how homosexuals are treated, that is not a very flattering picture of the US.

Yes no doubt everybody, not just gays, should be against human rights violations in other countries. Usually, however, we can only affect change in our own areas. And if you are going to bring up Africa, you should realize that some of the African nations with the worst prejudices towards gays are Christian nations.

Most of those countries are ultra conservative. Even heterosexuals are in the closet when it comes to talking about sexuality in public. Even heterosexuals are looked down upon if they bring those topics to light. Just look at what happened to Richard Gere when he tried to kiss Shilpa Shetty in India.

In most "Western" societies, we seem to be much more lax when it comes to discussing sexuality. The main reason we seem so agitated in these societies is because here the banner of equality is beaten loudly. We claim to be equal and protect all, but in reality our society fails to protect sexual minorities. Did you know that in most states one can be fired for being gay/lesbian/trans? If that is not hypocrisy then I am not sure what is.

Third, change has to start from your local areas. I am sure LGBT in those countries are doing things to bring these issues to light. They might not be given as much media attention as it is here though.
