Leon Trotsky was an influential Marxist and many believed him to be the logical successor after Lenin's death.

After Lenin died, Stalin began to scheme to assume control of the USSR, aligning with one faction to destroy a second, then assuming the philosophy of the second to destroy the first. Trotsky was exiled in 1928, spending time in several countries, eventually coming to rest in Mexico in where he continued to try and undermine Stalin and promote Communism.

In August of 1940, Trotsky was assassinated by Ramon Merceder.
