Help! I say hi to people but thay dont respond? What am i doing wrong?

Some people are just socially inept and don't know how to respond to politeness. Don't let them stop you! I walk around my school campus and say "hello" or "good morning" to everyone I walk past. Some people get freaked out and look the other direction or mutter something inaudible under their breath, but there are others whose faces just light up, and they say hello back and smile like I just made their day or something...and they're the reason I keep doing it. The world needs more friendly faces like yourself...so keep on saying hi, you never know whose day might be a little better just because you greeted them!

It depends on what city or neighborhood you live in. Some places where there is hi crime, people tend to keep more to themselves and are not used to strangers saying hi. Don't take it personally. You can also see if they make eye contact and smile first then you can say hi. You most likely will get a response. If people don't make eye contact, then saying hi catches them off guard and they may not know how to react before you even walk past each other.

Could be a number of reasons, but try this. When you say hi to someone, put on your best friendly smile and make eye contact. Most people will respond in some way if you do both of those things.

People are people, we cannot expect them to respond. I go through the same thing every morning.

If you look scary or "unacceptable" to society, that just might do the trick; you may also come off as straight out creepy or you don't give off the cheery glow.

You could smile.

Either that, or you're doing it too late or too early.

You aren't doing anything wrong. But don't be a like a guy who used to live in my old apt complex. I was about to report him to the police for harrassment. I did NOT want to say hi back because he was a smart a** but every time I saw him he kept saying hi knowing darn well I didn't want to say hi back. He was very obnoxious about it and it got to the point where he was saying hi just to harrass me. If they don't repsond, next time you see them don't say anything.

Don't talk to strangers that you don't even know. If you are in a school, ppl would just think you're weird. They're probably either busy, rude, or didn't hear you. Try to speak up, but not too much that it would break their ear drums.

some people are just like that...when I say "good morning" I don't get a response from every single person....you have to remember not to take it personally!!! I think to myself "maybe they are not a morning person" or "maybe they didn't hear me because I was too quiet" there can be many reasons behind it.. they might not even like you but who really cares...you are just saying HI and I wouldn't take it so personal!! :)

Just do your thing. However, if you are soliciting response from these folks as a means for reinforcing a sagging self image, most people recognize that, and really choose to not become involved.

That happens when they are lost in their thoughts and not paying attention to you. Sometimes they dont even know you are saying 'hi' to them but to somebody else.

Normally people would respond. People who dont respond are weirdos... just let them be.
