A man is traveling 9.8 m/s. When he reached his destination he was traveling 31.6 m/s. He knows his acceleratin was 5 m/s (2nd power). How long did it take him to get there. PLEASE SHOW WORK, it will help me do the rest of these questions. Appreciate any help I can get

Ok, you would use a kinematics equation....

Vf = Vi + at

Vf is our final velocity, which is 31. 6 m/s.

Vi is our initial velocity, which is 9.8 m/s.

a is the acceleration, which is 5 m/s/s.

...and then we are solving for t....so...

(31.6) = (9.8) + (5) (t)

21.8 = 5t

t = 4.36 seconds

Speed and acceleration are related by:

v = v0 + at where v0 is starting speed, a is acceleration, and t is time.

SOlve for time, t

t = (v-v0)/a = (31.6 - 9.8)/5 = (21.8)/5 = 4.44 s

In your physics text book you will find one of the three main equations in the kinematics section useful. Perhaps you can derive from first principles?
