This is an intriguing question! These are three really great bands.

The Beatles, in all their formats (they were never just the "fab 4") were absolutely the best band ever in the pop-rock genre! I Really like the Who and Floyd, but they were each more one-dimensional and ultimately limited. The Who could really rock out, but Floyd could also engage your intellect with their ALMOST bombastic productions. They were each VERY GOOD at their styles, and if one of those is YOUR favorite style, then you would answer differently. The Beatles could handle both of those styles, and much more, and kept reinventing themselves-- not always so magnificently, but always striving to be better and always striving to expand the scope of popular music.

As I musician, I hated the Beatles when they were first being played in the States. It really irritated me (jealousy) that all the girls were so attracted to them and insisting that everyone should emulate the Beatles! They copied so much from American musicians when they first got started, yet they were thought of as so new. I was immediately prejudiced against them! On the other hand, I fell in love with the Who and Pink Floyd when I first heard them. But as time passed and longevity entered the equation, the Beatles became the boss!

One reason for their longevity is so much of their material is playable by other bands. Lennon-McCartney were a great composing team and their songs live on! Look at how many DIVERSE recordings of their material exist. I prefer the jazz versions, but there are many styles! There are string collections, tuba groups, steel drum bands, kazoo choruses and even the Charlie Brown kids recording with only toy instruments! No one can argue with that kind of influence.

I would rank it as 1) The Beatles and 2) a tie between Pink Floyd and The Who.

I can see the appeal of Pink Floyd, but i grow tired of listening to them( too much synthesizer). The Who leaves me cold. I definitely put the Beatles at the top of my list. You can find a variety of sounds in their history. And most of it is based on real music, not endless, tired instrumentals.

All depends on my mood. I love Pink Floyd and the Beatles equally. The Who would be third..Although, they can rock!
