Is it possible to have air time of second jumping from level to level surface?

A buddy of mine told me it was pretty much impossible to be in the air for 1 second starting at the moment both feet leave the surface then reconnect. Is there any truth to this? It seems feasable to me.

height h = gt^2/2
if t = 0.5 (half the total air time), then h = 1.25 m (assuming g = 10 m/s^2)
Sounds difficult. Can you do a standing jump that high?
